"Internet Storks" have laid first Egg

During the early morning hours of April 10th the first egg was discovered at the eyrie of the "Internet Storks" in Vetschau/Spree Forest. Since the stork couple found each other on April 4th only six days passed for the laying of the first egg.

As a rule, the white storks lay eggs at intervals of two days. Whether our storks will be satisfied with this, remains to be seen. Often a clutch will consist of five or six eggs.

Anxiously one may now follow when the storks will start the incubation. It may happen in two ways: Often incubation will begin only after several eggs have been laid. This moment will govern the time of hatching of the young ones and the sequence. When incubation starts right after the first egg has been laid, the young ones will hatch in the order of the laying of eggs.

At this moment everything points to a normal stork year with an incubation time of 32 days.

"It appears that Luna, last year's female stork, has not yet arrived. This year's female which has paired up with Cico since April 4th appears to be larger and stronger than Luna of the last few years. Last year Luna arrived on April 5th. Now the question is, will she fight for 'her' eyrie and disrupt the current couple in its brood happenings?", so Winfried Boehmer.
