The next Round of "the Hour of the Garden Birds"

It doesn't matter whether all alone, in pairs, with friends or the whole family, have a look which birds cavort in your vicinity - your garden, your balcony or your neigbourhood park: Does the robin peek out from under the lilac bush? Does the sassy blue tit practice its gymnastics high in the apple tree? Does a blackbird scratch among the old fallen foliage? Or did the sparrow seize the porch's bird house?

And this is how it's done

The participation in the NABU-action "the Hour of the Garden Birds" is simple and is fun: On the Whitsunday weekend of May 9th to 12th, 2008 at an hour of you own choosing find a quiet corner from where you can see things clearly. Then, count all birds which come into view in your garden or your neighbourhood park. Blackbird

Tips to count, available at http://www.stunde-der-gartenvoegel.de/, will help you in gathering the bird information. The form shows the most common garden birds and makes it possible to check off individual birds. It helps to prevent count duplications by entering only the highest number of birds of one species during one specific hour. For, it is possible, that one particular bird might be seen several times during any given hour: To watch the same blackbird fly by five times, does not add up to five blackbirds obviously. Please do not return the form to NABU - it is only a worksheet to document your count.

Then report your results to NABU. This too is a simple procedure available at http://www.stunde-der-gartenvoegel.de/.
