Mourning for Stork Chicks

On Sunday, May 25th, two of "our" stork chicks died from as yet unknown causes. In mourning and shock stork fans follow the events at the Vetschau stork eyrie since noon on Sunday. One after the other two stork chicks died with out any hostile actions by either Cico or Luna, or other noticeable cause.

The progression is very similar to the loss of chicks from mould fungi in 2005 and 2006. At that time the chicks died of aspergillosis, a pneumonia variety caused by inhalation of mould fungus spores.

The two remaining chicks appear to be well and are well taken care of by the parent storks. We hope that both will struggle through, so
