3rd Bicycle Tour to Stork Eyries
How many Storks have become Fledglings?
On Saturday, July 26th, the NABU Calau invites you to the third and last bicycle tour of this year to the stork eyries in the vicinity of Vetschau. During this third tour the question of how many young storks have become fledglings. The results will be forwarded to this year's census and evaluation of the successes of the entire brood of 2008. How successful was the stork season of 2008? What impact did the scarcity of food - intensified during this year due to the long drought - have on bringing up of the young storks?
The meeting place will be at the White Stork Information Centre of Lower Lusatia Vetschau/Spree Forest at 9:00 a.m. Prior to the start, all participants will peek into the eyrie of the "Internet Storks" and receive news of Cico, Luna and their chicks Finja and Apoll. They will also be informed of what the veterinary examinations of the offsprings have revealed. The distance of nearly ten miles (15 km) will last about 2½ hours and lead to all stork eyries of the vicinity. Winfried Boehmer will lead the tour this time and will report on the lives of storks and present the history of the individual eyries. It is also guaranteed that other species can be seen during this tour and, of course, the participants will receive much additional information with respect to nature protection subjects, and have their posed questions answered.
