Vetschau Internet Storks now with Personal ID
On Friday June 25th at exactly 9:00 a.m. the young storks in Vetschau received their personal "ID Cards". Everything went smoothly.
Mrs. Katerina Illig of NABU Luckau banded "our" four young storks with the so-called ELSA rings which were fastened above the intertarsal leg joints.
The following numbers were issued for this stork eyrie:
DEH - HC208 DEH - HC209 DEH - HC210 DEH - HC211
and the names of our Internet storks "Klappi", "Twiggy", "Friedrich" and "Paula" assigned.
During this assignment in the Vetschau/Spree Forest area four young storks in Repten as well as three in Raddusch were also banded.
The reason for banding lies in the that the behaviour and the environment of the stork can be traced. We ask people to report when rings are found and readings of them to the White Stork Information Centre in Vetschau, any known nature protection facility or the Banding Head Office, Hiddensee.
A thank-you to all people involved, especially enviaM which supplied the required equipment free of charge.
Bernd Elsner Manager NABU Regional Association Calau e.V.
