The youngest Chick died of Food Shortage
On the 12th of May the last hatched stork chick lay dead in the nest. It obviously starved to death. Due to the extreme dryness in Lusatia the old storks were unable to find enough small food animals. The young ones need earthworms, snails and small insects at this age. Even after some precipitation, there is a shortage of them.
An old stork placed the dead chick at the edge of the nest at about 10:30 am.
