Highlight at www.storchennest.de - Young Storks will be banded

On Wednesday the 2nd of July at about 9:00 a.m. (3:00 a.m. EDT in North America) the Vetschau Internet storks will be banded. The banding will be done by Katharina Illig of Luckau. She has extensive experience and is licensed to do so. enviaM will supply the required lifting equipment.

The banding may be followed live on the Internet. The birds are banded that they may be identified at any time. For instance, one may ascertain when they breed or how old they may become.

Stork friends often worry, that the young storks might jump out of the nest or the parent stork might abandon them. None of this should be a worry.
 
This year a new type of band will be used. With these bands urine acid will not develop during chalking of the legs. For this reason the band can be positioned above the intertersal joint, not as before, at the foot. The high banding has a sigficant advantage in that the band is much more visible on the stork. The band number can be easily read with a good set of binoculars.
