Rotbein und Weißfeder gehen auf Futtersuche

The time of pining for food until the next meal is past for the young Vetschau storks. On August 13th they flew away for an hour in search for food. "Red Legs" and "White Feather" receive guidance from their parents during the search and are still being fed at the same time.

Both feathered upstarts were named by attentive Internet visitors. They made thousands of discoveries which they posted to the "Forum" link "Observations of the Nest at Vetschau" ("Beobachtungen im Nest von Vetschau"). As an extra they captured rare snapshots of the web camera which created a once in a lifetime Vetschau diary.

The hour of saying goodby to the Vetschau storks is drawing near. Estimates at the white stork information centre say that "White Feather" and "Red Legs" will return to their nursery for another week. After that they will meet with storks of their own age for the migration south. Their parents will remain for several more days until they too will prepare themselves for the grand "sailing tournament".

About one million Internet visitors will stay behind and wait for a new edition of informative biology instructions in 2004. The seventh year of the joint Storknest Project of NABU and Energy Service enviaM with technical support from envia tel is nearly history.
