More Safety for Storks

The new Federal Law for the Protection of Nature, which comes into effect today, will also bring more safety to storks. Up to now accidents at medium voltage power lines have been the most frequent causes of death to white storks.

Article #53 of the new law reads: 'For the protection of bird species newly erected power poles and technical component parts of medium voltage powerlines are to be constructed in such a manner that birds are protected against electrocution. Presently existing power poles and technical component parts of medium voltage powerlines posing imminent danger to birds are to be retrofitted with suitable and necessary safety devices against electrocution'.
