New female Stork has laid three eggs already

User "Naturfreundin" captured view of three Eggs

The tremendous public interest in the Vetschau stork nest led to the discovery of the third, almost indistinguishable, egg on April 28th. A "nature friend" took the deciding snapshot and published it in our Forum. The new female stork had laid both of the other eggs on April 23rd and 25th already. Incubating storks seldom allow observation of the deep nest hollow.

Only a few days ago the female stork had conquered the eyrie after a dramatic struggle, the first female was ejected and the eggs of the first clutch thrown out of the nest.

The new business of brooding is going along swiftly. From first mating to laying eggs only five days have past. Usually this phase takes seven to ten days.

As a rule white storks lay their eggs at intervals of two days. We assume that a clutch of four to five eggs will come forth. Our stork couple began incubating immediately. As a result the young ones will hatch in the sequence of the laying of the eggs.

Currently everything runs along harmoniously with the couple. The partners relieve each other regularly in the duties of incubation. Often, the male uses his beak to lovingly "nibbles" at the female. They have not had any attacks from outside storks at this time.
