Stork Centre at Vetschau will be closed as of June 1st
The White Stork Information Centre of Lusatia at Vetschau/Spree Forest has to close its doors to visitors until further notice. Only the already booked groups can be looked after. Reason for the closure is the absence of personnel placements via the ABM-employment program. The current arrangements run out on May 31st, and new ABM positions have not been authorized in spite of multiple efforts. However, the NABU, Regional Federation Calau hopes this situation can be overcome quickly.
To guarantee a flawless transition for tourist services and other duties, new associates would have to have been in place at the latest in mid-May. According to most recent information from the offices-in-charge at the Federal Government and at Calau, confirmation of new positions cannot be expected before mid-June. The White Stork Information Centre is a recognized place of environment education and a tourism magnet for guests from Germany and abroad. That the establishment has to close at the height of the stork season is extrodinarily harmful.
The executive of the NABU, Regional Federation Calau tries everything in its power to reopen the centre to visitors as quickly as possible. Internet broadcasts from the Vetschau stork eyrie is not effected by the temporary closure of the Stork Centre. Should, however, as hinted to by an officer at the employment agency, no positions be granted to the Stork Centre, the facility is threatened with total closure.
