Young Storks left "Home alone" for the first Time

At the age of twenty days the time has come for the young storks to be left on their own once in a while. Meanwhile, they are large enough and do not require constant protection and care of one of the parent storks. In addition, the need for more food for hungry young beaks grows daily. It has risen to 8½ lbs per day for the three remaining three chicks. One parent alone is unable to keep up the pace so that both will fly off to nearby meadows and fileds.
