Storks still at the Eyrie

In addition to our young stork #H2822 a parent stork has remained in the vicinity. We saw him standing on a chinmey already on Tuesday, August 24th. During the days he does land at the eyrie. They do not appear together. The young stork does not attempt to beg for anything from the parent stork. This morning at 10:40 AM we observed the young stork foraging in the meadows at the ALDI-market. He stepped normally, ate small animals and even snatched a fly skilfully out of the air. He came close to our car and then flew effortless to the eyrie. His behaviour does not point to any illness, neither are injuries visible.

We have stork information from the Spree Forest. There is still movement of storks to the south, so we can hope the storks will leave during good weather. At this time we can do little. The young stork is absolutely able to fly, often he sits in the eyrie or on roofs of the surrounding area, and roams the meadows. When he stood on the roof of building market yesterday, we tried to get up there to catch him, but we were not allowed to step on it, it does not hold our weight.

We cannot reach him and with that our possibilities are exhausted for the moment. He is much too fit to allow himself to be caught. Should he really be sick, we will catch him eventually and nurse him. However, there is no evidence of it yet. Maybe all he needs are a few more days before he is ready to fly away. Of course, we are watching him constantly and will report how he fares.
