Stork Accidents
The time has arrived when young storks attempt their first flights. This leads as experience has shown to accidents. In Burg near Vetschau a dead stork was found. The cause of death was possibly flying into a cable. In Luebbenau a stork died from being electrocuted by a train power line. It is to be prepared for our exhibition. In Werben a young stork tried to fly from a chimney, but, although landing unharmed, was unable to return to its eyrie. It is presently being cared for until it can fly properly.
A week ago, with the help of the Vetschau Volunteer Fire Department, we freed a stork. It got trapped in a nest support. Fortunately it was only slightly injured on a wing and will soon begin its trek to Africa.
