Stork Couple lays second Egg

In the morning of April 27th, Internet fans discovered the second egg at "our" storks' eyrie. On April 25th the first egg had been laid. As a rule, white storks l ay eggs every two days until the clutch of four to five eggs is complete.

With the start of brooding, one stork warms the eggs constantly. Both partners alternate in the brooding process. One of them tends the clutch constantly as well which includes turning the eggs regularly, so that the embryos develop evenly. The stork on "R and R" concentrates on his plumage or flies to the nearby fields and meadows to feed. Upon his return, which is always accompanied by a happy greeting of their beaks, the storks bring along often nets material. The nest is constantly renovated. They pay particular attention that the eggs are dry and warm. It will now take 32 days of brooding until the young ones will hatch.

Those who would like to inform themselves about the life of storks, the necessary measures for their protection and have a peek into their nest at the site, may do this at the White Stork Information Centre in Vetschau/ Spree Forest from Tuesdays to Sundays and holidays between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
