A Bicycle Tour to Stork Eyries

The NABU Regional Association Calau extends an invitation to a bicycle tour on Saturday, June 3 to view stork eyries around the Stradower Ponds. We will meet at the Vetschau Stork Centre at 10:00 a.m.The tour of 9 1/4 miles will last about 2½ hours and leads to all stork eyries in the area. H.-Juergen Boemack will report on the lives of storks and the history of the individual eyries. During this first stork tour of this year we will also determine how many eyries are occupied and whether a good stork year is emerging. During last year thousand of the so-called Eastern Movers were missing, and many storks did not breed. Only 46% of young storks became fledglings in comparison to 2004. What were the reasons? Should we worry about avian flu losses? These are questions H.-Juergen Boemack will answer competently. Of course, other bird species will also come into view on this tour. With a little luck whooping swans and ospreys are among them.
