The first Chick has hatched

On Saturday the 27th of May the first chick hatched at the Vetschau "Internet Storks". At 4:32 a.m. the Internet viewers were able to capture the first photo evidence and presented it in the website Forum. Already around midnight, beeping sounds could be heard from within the egg. After the regular brooding time of 32 days, the chick peeled itself, with the help of a parent stork, out of the egg shell. The stork protectors and stork friends from all over the world are happy and have sent in good luck wishes to the Nature Protection Federation at Vetschau via the Internet. Naming of the "pipsqueak" with follow next week by the "Witja"-Children's Group of Vetschau. Cico and Luna attend to the offsprings caringly, nestle the chick and constantly loosen the material of the nest hollow. One of the parent storks is always present with the young ones at the nest, while the other flies away in search of fodder. The necessary small animals, such as earth worms and snails, are abundantly available. The food is not stuffed into the beaks of the young ones as it is done by songbirds. The parent storks regurgitate the food from the crop onto the nest floor. From there the young ones pick it up themselves. It is hard to believe, however, this "pipsqueak" of a wee young stork lays his head on his back and practices clattering. Now the exiting phase of bringing up the young storks begins.
