Bicycle Tour to Stork Eyries

The NABU Regional Association Calau extends an invitation to participate in bicycle tour on July 16th to visit stork eyries around the Stradow Ponds. The meeting place is the Vetschau Stork Centre at 9:00 a.m. The tour of about 9½ miles will last in the neighbourhood of 2½ hours, and passes all stork eyries of the district. H.-Juergen Boemack will report about the life of storks and the history of each eyrie. At the outset the Centre's exhibits will be viewed and the visitors will be informed of the current events at the Vetschau eyrie. At this second tour of the year it will also be determined how many eyries are occupied and how many chicks are growing up. Most young ones are already large enough to be seen from below. During the previous year thousands of so-called 'eastern travelers' were missed and many stork couples did not breed. Only 46% of young storks, in comparison to 2004, became fledglings. What were the reasons? These are questions which H.-Juergen Boemack will answer competently. Of course, other bird species can also be observed, With a little luck whoopers and ospreys will be among them.
