Hugo wears a Band
On Monday, the 3rd of July, Hugo received an ELSA-band with the number H4221 (H signifies Hiddensee) from Ms. Katharina Illig. The band was positioned above the intertersal joint. These bands, in use for only a few years, allow upper banding without side effects such as sticking of the ring or even constriction of the leg. Ms. Illig has been banding for over 30 years, which means, Hugo was in good hands.
A staff member of the Institute for Fowl Diseases at the Freie Universitaet of Berlin took a blood sample and swabs from the beak and anus. NABU wants to determine the cause of death of the chicks and detect a possible infection in Hugo, because for the second in a row, the hatched chicks of the "Internet Eyrie" have perished. For this a research program has been started. Te Institute for Fowl Diseases will conduct additional investigations, the results of which I shall report.
