Cico has arrived

March 27th 2:45 p.m.: A stork in the sky above Vetschau/Spree Forest. Single-mindedly he aims for the Stork Centre, a light rustle from his wings - and a direct landing on the eyrie. At once he lays his head onto his back with ample of clatter, as if to say, "After a long flight from Africa I am back, and bring you spring and good fortune". "Isn't that wonderful... Adebar is back again!", so the poem begins which "Columbine1" penned on the occasion of Cico's arrival. Shortly after, he brings nest material to the eyrie. Many stork fans of the Internet and Winfried Boehmer, NABU Project Leader, inspect the stork closely. Do they recognize him from the previous year? Is he banded? No, he is not, but everyone is fairly certain: It is Cico, the male stork of last year. Only he makes such scratchy noises, In addition, such early arriving storks are most often brood storks of the particular eyrie, because the loyalty to it is a strong trait of storks. Last year Cico arrived on March 24th.

The Vetschau "Internet Eyrie" has been occupied since 1992 without Interruption, and is widely coveted by storks. Often storks will fight over it for possession. The events may again be observed live via camera and microphone at the Stork Centre. From now on it will pay particularly to visit the Stork Centre. Starting April 1st the Centre is open Tuesdays to Sundays and on holidays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The film about the lives of Cico and Luna "Auf unsrer Wiese gehet was ..." ("Someone walks on our meadow ..." [in German only]) may be ordered as a DVD from the Stork Centre. Your Stork Team
