Arrival at the nest:
March 31 1st stork arriving the nest (male stork)
April 1 2nd male stork arriving the nest, after a short fight one of them gets the ownership of the nest
April 5 Two female storks arrive at the nest, one escaping after a small fight. Begin of a lasting relationship of the couple
Eggs in the nest:
April 16 1st egg laid
April 18 2nd egg laid. The storks starting to incubate the eggs
April 12th-24th In a time distance of two days the other 3 eggs laid. Now with 5 eggs the nest is complete
Start of brooding:
April 18 The storks started brooding after the first egg was laid. This deviates from the norm. In most cases the storks start brooding when there are already several eggs laid.
May 19 1st young bird hatched out (Hanna)
May 19 2nd young bird hatched out (Heidi)
May 20 3th young bird hatched out (Lisa)
May 22 4th young bird hatched out (Annelies)
May 22 5th young bird hatched out (Siegfried)
Loss of nestlings:
May 27 Youngest bird was killed.
May 30 Smallest bird was killed.
Ringing of the Young Storks:
June 27 The young storks are ringed by Mrs. Katharina Illig
Start of Practice Flights:
July 5 The young ones begin to beat their wings and hop around the nest.
Termoregulation:
July 22 At temperatures above 30°C (88°F) the old and young storks cover their legs with lime.
The first free Flights:
July 25 The second youngest stork flies a circle, misses the nest and lands on a garage roof. After two hours he returns.
July 28 All three young storks fly into the surrounding area in search for food.
Leaving the Nest:
August 8 All three young storks are together at the nest for the last time.
