Flying practice of Vetschau's young Storks
For some time now, we are watching the first flight practices of our young storks, "Antonia" and "Knuffi", of the Internet eyrie in Vetschau/Spree Forest. They practice bravely and use their wings more and more every day. Flying is an instinctive movement with white stork which simply matures and is not a copying of the moves of the parents. According to observations, the young storks start the flight beat movements around the 40th day of life, and after the 60th day this leads to jumps, especially during good wind conditions and the absence of the parent storks. Presumably by mid-August our young storks will leave us and fly south. Those who may wish to observe our stork family at their home, may pay us a visit at the White Stork Information Centre of Lower Lusatia of NABU, Regional Association Calau, 2a Drebkau Street, in Vetschau, Spree Forest. Bernd Elsner Manager NABU Regional Association Calau
Start flying lessons: At about 4:30 p.m. "Antonia" took to the air unintentionally and landed safely on the neighbour's roof. After about an hour and a half she returned safely to her nest.
