It's good to see these chicks looking so well. It's been very interesting to watch this nest year after year, with different outcomes each time. I will never forget little Hugo from the first year I watched.
The Vetschau Young Storks will receive their Names and Bands
In the forenoon of Wednesday, June 27th, our young storks will receive their bands and at the same time one of the two will be "christened". The first hatched chick received its name Zora right after it hatched. It happened on the "Day of the open Door" at the White Stork Information Centre of NABU Regional Association Calau's in Vetschau/Spree Forest.
The banding will again be done by Mrs. Katharina Illig of Luckau. The Lift equipment will be supplied by the electric power supplier enviaM. Interested persons as well as Spree Forest guests are cordially invited to experience this event at the White Stork Information Centre od Lower Lusatia in Vetschau, Spree Forest. The Internet will carry the banding live. Should by chance stork friend worry that the young storks might jump out of the nest or the parent storks desert their young. Not to worry! It shall not happen, banding is a normal occurrence.

Great video of the foreign stork intruder. Strange that it stayed around to tidy up the nest. What a brave little one to stand up to it and get it to fly away....then to see the chick cudde back with the other chick was so sweet.
My first year watching the nest at Vetschau was also the year of our dear little Hugo. Will never forget how brave he was to the end. Almost decided not to watch the following season because there had been so much sadness that year.
